CityGML and OGC

CityGML was originally developed by the SIG3D as a standard for modeling 3D city models and 2008 successfully submitted to OGC as standard CityGML V1.0.

The SIG3D heavily defined and developed most parts of the current version 2.0 and is currently working on key components of the next release of CityGML 3.0. The basis of SIG3D's engagement is a Memorandum of Understanding between SIG3D and OGC

You can find more Information about CityGML at the OGC www.opengeospatial.org and also on the wikis of the KIT Karlsruhe and the TU Munich

As part of the Web Services for 3D city data SIG3D has developed the definition of the Web 3D Service (W3DS) and submitted to the OGC.

Existing standards of ISO TC 211 (standards of ISO 19K series), the OGC and the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C XML standard) form the basis for the work of the SIG3D.

   CityGML EnergyADE

Using CityGML-based 3D city models for energy calculations and energy simulation in neighborhoods or on an urban or nationwide scale requires the modeling and storage of energy-related data in the 3D city model.

To reach a widespread use of 3D city models in conjunction with various applications SIG3D has initiated the development of a harmonized version of CityGML 2.0 EnergyADE.

At the moment the CityGML 2.0 EnergyADE 0.8.0 is available, which has been developed by the SIG3D and a European consortium. More information here and at the EnergyADE Wiki, the EnergyADE GitHub

SIG3D will continue to support the further development of the CityGML EnergyADE.

   INSPIRE

The SIG3D is registered in INSPIRE as a Spatial Data Interest Group (SDIC) and also as a Legally Mandated Organization (LMO) through the GDI-DE.

In the INSPIRE modeling process of 3D themes in Annex II and III  experts of the SIG3D were involved in the topics of building models, terrain and production and industrial sites.

Particularly in the specification of INSPIRE building model a maximum compatibility with the CityGML standard could be reached.
Meanwhile a CityGML INSPIRE ADE (Application Domain Extension) has been developed jointly by the University of Bonn and the Technical University of Munich. This INSPIRE ADE enables a lossless transformation of CityGML data to INSPIRE Building data in both directions.

The SIG3D will continue to engage in 3D themes in INSPIRE and deal with this topic in the SIG3D Modeling working group.
